Through developing an understanding of and giving children the opportunity to apply these values, we can really make a difference to help all young people turn into successful individuals. We strive to ensure that these values are not only encountered within our Commando Joe’s missions, but that they are continually utilised throughout the academy day and onwards even within the community.
Our values are the things we take throughout our entire lives and the beliefs we keep within ourselves and how we work with others.
Being resilient closely links with being courageous. This link in values allows our students to continue trying their best when things get hard, and that takes courage in themselves to really succeed when they might get frustrated, upset or annoyed at whatever they might be trying to complete.
Having empathy links with being responsible. This allows students to feel for one another and be responsible for each other, by showing kindness and treating each other how they would want to be treated.
Being self-aware follows the value of knowing you are skilled. Within this link, it allows young people to understand what they are good at and even what they might not be so good at and then manage their decision making depending on their own skills and expertise.
Having passion creates a place for you to be positive. Passion and positivity allows for fantastic vibes to be shared around the school community, creating a fun and exciting environment to learn and succeed.
Showing excellence allows for young people to become aspirational. Excellence means for young people to be trying to be the best and through aspiration they can achieve this. They need to imagine being the best to then aspire to it before being able to achieve that aspiration and allowing for excellence.
Using communication helps everyone to be inquisitive. We love children to communicate by asking questions and wanted to hear about new and exciting things, and within this exciting topics it allows the opportunity for children to want to be inquisitive and go away, excited, and find out more.
Performing teamwork creates opportunities for young people to be collaborative. Teamwork and collaboration have an immediate link because it means that students are constantly supporting, sharing and helping one another to create a wonderful environment for all.
And most importantly with both of our values being RESPECT, and making sure that we are always treating everyone fairly as we would want to be respected ourselves.
I have taken part in many different areas of specialist training over my life, travelling across to different countries and learning from every experience. Some of my favourite memories are from travelling across America to all of the different cities, with my Rockefeller Centre and the Statue of Liberty. I will also never forget travelling to Austria and skiing across the Alps.
More recently, I have spent time working across a diverse range of educational settings, where I have delivered PE lessons, undertaken football scouting and coaching for multiple academies and supported young individuals to become the best version of themselves.
The reason why I love being an instructor for Commando Joe’s is that through the RESPECT values we can help give children the opportunity to be the best people they can be! We can only do that by giving them experiences and chances to become young, respectful individuals. I thoroughly believe that every child needs to be given chances to become resilient and to experience the ups and downs of every life as not everything goes how you expect it to go and sometimes we need to try things out before we find our own way to be successful and fulfil each individual’s potential.
