I am enormously proud to be the Headteacher at Birley Primary Academy. We are a mainstream three-form primary school – situated in south-east Sheffield – that is committed to inclusive education and meeting the needs of all the children in our care.
We are a happy and positive educational setting where diversity is truly celebrated. This school is a special place where we are very ambitious for all of our pupils. We have a team of talented, hardworking and committed staff who are dedicated to doing the very best for all children.

We were thrilled to welcome local artist Pete McKee to Birley Primary Academy where he spent time with pupils across the school to explore his iconic style and inspire their own creativity and works of art.
At Birley Primary Academy our main hall and dining room are available for hire throughout the year.
What an incredible week we have had celebrating Recycle Week 2026 at Birley! 💚
Our Global Gang members have been working incredibly hard to help make a difference around our academy. They took to our school grounds to tidy up litter and, importantly, worked together to sort what they collected into recyclable and non-recyclable items, ensuring everything was disposed of appropriately. 🌱👏
But that wasn't all! Our Global Gang then launched an academy-wide Creative Recycling Competition, challenging children to get creative and think about how we can reuse, recycle and reduce waste. ♻️🎨
And WOW… what a response! 🤩
We received some absolutely outstanding entries from every year group across the academy. The creativity, imagination and effort that went into the entries was fantastic, as you can clearly see from the amazing quality on display in the photograph below! 🌎✨
🏆 Prizes and certificates were awarded to all of our brilliant entries, with our two Grand Prize Winners, Oliver in Y4 and Willow in Y5, earning themselves a fantastic Cineworld voucher! 🎬🍿

Today, we have been celebrating National Poetry Day across the academy, and what a wonderful day it has been! 💙
Our focus in English lessons today has been solely on poetry, with all of our learning inspired by this year’s theme of ‘Wonder’. 🌟
Throughout the academy, our children have been exploring the magic of words, playing with language and discovering how poetry can help us see the world in new and wonderful ways. ✍️💭
As part of the day, our Year 4 children explored the whole academy for their very own ‘Wonder Walk’ around our school grounds. They explored the places around Birley where they could find wonder, thinking carefully about the sights, sounds, feelings and memories connected to special places in our school. 🏫🌳
After their walk, the children used their ideas and observations to create their own poems about a place in school that is special to them. ❤️
It has been fantastic to see the children embracing poetry and finding wonder in the everyday. 🌈✨

This week, we joined Clare Bristow, from the Sadie Bristow Foundation, for a special 30-minute live assembly exploring allergies and how we can help everyone feel safe and included at school. Clare explained what an allergy is, introduced the new allergy-safety requirements known as Benedict’s Law and shared simple actions children can take, including listening to others and telling an adult if someone feels unwell. This important assembly allowed all pupils to understand why allergy awareness matters and how the whole school community can work together to care for and include children with allergies.
